What's the difference between a 'designer', a 'developer', and a 'webmaster'?

A designer needs to have a good understanding of how websites are constructed, using knowledge of technologies such as HTML, XHTML, CSS and Javascript as well as graphics generation and manipulation, to be able to create layouts and enhance the visual aspect and basic functionality of websites and webpages for visitors. For more advanced designs which involve templating, a designer should have knowledge of PHP, CGI/PERL and other programming languages.

A developer must have a very good understanding of, and knowledge gained from working with, quite a few programming languages and technologies like JavaScripting, CMS's, database usage, PHP, ASP, (or whichever flavors you prefer for development), as well as a designer's skills, tools, and technologies. A developer configures the applications of a website, it's usefulness and interactivity with the users.

To put it simply, a webmaster (or hostmaster) is anyone who actively publishes material and content to the world wide web through the use of a registered Domain Name and serving the requested documents for the Domain Name through the use of a server permanently connected to the world wide web. A webmaster must have knowledge of Web Server, Domain Name Server(DNS), FTP Server, and other technologies configuration and administration.

The tutorials we provide herein are focused on web design and (some) development. Examples, tips, tricks, and snippets of code that can be useful in making the visual aspect of websites more appealing to users. Put forth in an effort to assist and encourage others to to create and publish their own webpages/websites.
